Stylidium amoenum, commonly known as Lovely Triggerplant is a perennial herb which occurs in the hills east from Perth, WA. It grows in my property along with Stylidium androsaceum (Book triggerplant) and Stylidium hispidum and Stylidium ciliatum (the Butterfly group). They take order in blooming – another way how to avoid cross-pollination. Stylidium amoenum (Lovely Triggerplant) blooms from September to the beginning of December at the same time as S. cilatum (Golden Triggerplant) does and after S.androsaceum (Book) and S. hispidum (Butterfly) do.
Stylidium amoneum grows in grey-yellow sandy loams or clay with laterite gravel and ironstone. Dark green rosettes are about five cm in diameter and hold 5-12 self-supporting stems which can be 10-50 cm high. The Lovely Triggerplant blooms performs best in half shade near a small bush.
You can easily grow “Lovely” in your garden or in pots. It needs very good drainage in a sandy loam with clay and medium watering in winter and in spring. Be careful when re-potting; the Lovely Triggerplant does not like moving at all.
